2025 – Istanbul, Turkey – Italian Consulate, Casina storica
The Casina Storica is a historic building located within the Italian Consulate complex in Istanbul, in the Beyoğlu district. Built in the second half of the 19th century, it stands in the southeastern corner of the property, which also includes the Palazzo di Venezia and its gardens. Originally, during the Austro-Hungarian period, the building housed the residence and offices of the first counselor of the Habsburg mission. In 1861, it was rebuilt based on a design by architect Gaspare Fossati, on the site of a former timber structure dating back to the Venetian era.
Expin conducted structural investigations aimed at assessing the mechanical properties of the masonry and timber elements, as well as determining the construction characteristics of the foundations, in view of evaluating the building’s seismic behaviour.
