2024 – Venice, Italy – Ca’ Farsetti and Ca’ Loredan
Ca’ Farsetti and Ca’ Loredan are two historic Venetian palaces located in the San Marco district, overlooking the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge, hosting the main offices of the Municipality of Venice. Both buildings date back to the 13th century; Ca’ Farsetti was originally built for the Dandolo family, while Ca’ Loredan began as a Venetian-Byzantine fondaco for the Boccasi family. The two palaces are connected by an elevated passageway and have housed the Venice City Hall since the mid-19th century.
In support of a renovation project, Expin was commissioned to carry out an extensive diagnostic campaign, which included mechanical characterization of the masonry (flat-jack testing, mortar penetrometer), structural surveying, assessment of the conservation state of timber elements (resistance drilling testing, moisture measurement, visual grading of timber, and fungal analysis), as well as MASW geophysical surveys.
