2025 – Venice, Italy – Room of the Four Doors, Doge’s Palace

The Doge’s Palace in Venice, located in Piazza San Marco and symbolizing the Serenissima Republic, was originally built in the 9th century. However, the current structure is the result of successive reconstructions and expansions mainly carried out between the 14th and 15th centuries, following a series of fires and transformations that reshaped its appearance. Built in Venetian Gothic style, the palace served as the residence of the Doge and the political heart of the Republic of Venice, housing the government, courts, and prisons.

Expin was commissioned to assess the conservation status of the timber structures supporting the vaulted false ceiling of the “Room of the Four Doors”, which was rebuilt after the 1574 fire based on a design by Andrea Palladio and decorated with frescoes by Tintoretto and canvases by Titian and Tiepolo.
